TOBACCO PREVENTION

Tobacco Prevention & Control is a program focusing on improving and protecting the health of the public by promoting tobacco-free as the norm and encouraging and supporting tobacco cessation.

Lake Region District Health Unit takes a comprehensive approach to reducing the impact of tobacco products and secondhand smoke, including resources and support for quitting, assistance in developing tobacco policies for schools, businesses and communities, updating medical providers and partnering with other community leaders. More information on these programs and resources can be found in the links section of this webpage.

Smoking kills more people than alcohol, AIDS, car crashes, illegal drugs, murders, and suicides combined-and thousands more die from other tobacco-related causes-such as fires caused by smoking (more than 1,000 deaths per year nationwide) and smokeless tobacco use.
