Environmental Health is responsible for health and safety education to enforce state public health laws, LRDHU regulations, and local ordinances in Benson, Cavalier, Eddy, Pierce, Ramsey, Rolette, and Towner counties.

As of January 1, 2024, LRDHU is no longer licensing and doing inspects for childcare, school, and/or tanning facilities.  North Dakota Depart of Health & Human Services: Food & Lodging division will licensing and inspecting these facilities going forward.

AIR QUALITY

Molds and moisture issues can create serious indoor air quality issues in your home, school, or workplace. Spores released from molds may cause a variety of adverse health effects.

AQUATIC FACILITIES

LRDHU licenses and inspects those facilities that have pool, spas, and wading pools.  Inspection and education is performed in order to prevent the spread of recreational water illnesses (RWI), injuries, and drownings. 

*Bacterial water tests are time sensitive.  Check with lab and USPS to determine if sample with arrive at required time. 

ONSITE SEWER TREATMENT SYSTEMS

LRDHU licenses and permits all new onsite sewage treatment systems (OSTS) and/or repairs to existing OSTS which include: septic tanks, drain fields, cesspools, and/or holding tanks.  Additionally, provides inspection of existing permitted systems upon request.  Inspection and education of systems is performed in order to protect the public's health by reducing the risk of waterborne illness & preventing ground & surface water contamination.
